Is a rental agreement compulsory?

Many tenants wish to receive a written confirmation before paying a deposit. To meet this demand, you can use a rental agreement.

Gîtes puts an online agreement at your disposal. This agreement is clearly formulated and meets current legal requirements. It can be sent via an email (PDF format) or you can import it into a file to be sent by post. You can also use one of the many samples of contacts available on the Internet to create your own rental agreement. Be warned! The rental agreement must meet the following requirements:

-    It must be formulated in French (because it regards a gîte located in France) and accompanied by a translation (in Dutch when your clients are from Holland)

-    It must contain the following elements: the address of the gîte, as well as the owner’s address; the rental price; terms of payment and cancellation; a description of the gîte as well as its measurements and an inventory list. Of course, don’t forget to mention the length of the stay.

Be warned: a seasonal rental cannot last longer than two months. If you wish to stay longer, it is preferable to renew the rental agreement every two months.

A rental agreement is a useful tool that protects both you and your tenant.
